Welcome to the Central Balkan
The territory of the society is a climatic boundary of Northern and Southern Bulgaria. This is the cross-roads for the species of the Moderate continental and the Mediterranean climatic zones. This, as well as its diverse relief and the altitude differences, makes the territory perfect for a number of plants and animals that have survived here. Here new plant species still continue to evolve - eleven can be observed in this place only. This territory is one of the last European habitats of the bear, wolf and chamois, species that determine the key role that Bulgaria has to play for the preservation of the natural heritage of Europe. This territory has also sheltered the largest protected territory of aged beech forests in Europe - some of them older than 250 years! |
